[Colombia] Primera A Review: Boyaca Chico stumble, top sides win

Boyaca Chico dropped off the pace in the Colombian Primera A, while Deportivo Cali and Medellin won to hold the top two spots.

Two points off top heading into the weekend, Boyaca Chico twice coughed up a lead to draw 2-2 at Atletico Nacional.

Francisco Rodriguez and Juan Perez had put Boyaca Chico ahead in the eighth and 60th minutes respectively, but equalisers from Elkin Calle and Sherman Cardenas helped salvage a point for Atletico.

Deportivo Cali are clear top on 17 points, one ahead of Medellin, after a 1-0 road win over Aguilas Doradas.

Juan Cabezas’ goal three minutes out from half-time was enough for Cali, who won their fifth game of the season.

Medellin joined Cali with four straight wins, as they downed Fortaleza 3-2 away from home.

[Colombia] Primera A Review: Deportivo Cali go top, Deportes Tolima draw

Deportivo Cali climbed to the Colombian Primera A summit after Deportes Tolima dropped points over the weekend.

A 90th-minute goal from Juan Cabezas handed Cali a dramatic 1-0 win over Junior at the Estadio Olimpico Pascual Guerrero on Sunday.

With the match petering out for a draw, Cabezas headed home powerfully from a corner in the first minute of injury time as Cali claimed their third consecutive win.

That win was enough to see Cali move a point clear at the summit with 14 points from seven rounds despite Tolima overturning a three-goal deficit to salvage a 3-3 draw against nine-man Once Caldas.

Tolima were in deep trouble at half-time on Sunday after they conceded three goals during the opening 45 minutes.

Johan Arango’s brace and a goal from Sergio Romero had the visiting side on track for a routine victory at the Estadio Manuel Murillo.
